For me, motivation to write comes in many forms.
Some examples:
- There's something about sitting in a dark theater with a hundred or so people, all of you ready to watch a new story unfold on a screen as big as a house. The thought just makes me giddy with the motivation bug.
- When I read a book in a day because I can't put it down, because the words sing to me like the most addictive siren song I have ever heard, I want to do nothing but write something that may move another in the same way.
-I'm also an observer of people. Watching the interactions of a husband and wife shopping together or a group of girls out to dinner is magic to my writing juices. Wondering where they came from, what they are talking about and what they plan on doing in their future...well, it's inspiration in its purest form! To me.
- I was reading someones blog the other day and the way they came about their inspiration inspired me too.
So as you can see, tons of ways I can be motivated to write.
What about you? What gets you excited to create another page, and another, and another until you have thousands of words and your own masterpiece?
I love watching movies in the theater. That moment of expectation and knowledge the story may be truly great motivates me to write a story as inspiring to others.
ReplyDeleteI am definitely with you there on the reading a new book thing - I started Game of Thrones after getting addicted to the HBO tv show and I can't stop thinking about it. I can only hope to write something that makes people feel that way.
ReplyDeleteI'm right there with you on all the examples. Movies - since I started writing, it's a whole different experience. I still love them, but now I learn from them too. The same is true with books and people watching - inspiration is all around us; fun post!
ReplyDeleteLove your list. It's amazing where motivation can come from. I was reading the Ensign yesterday and got an idea for a YA fantasy. Now if I can just remember what it was ...
ReplyDeleteMovie trailers really inspire me. They take whatever they are selling - action, comedy, romance, drama - and pump it up for maximum emotional effect. They highlight all the moments of stories that we love (with accompanying music swell) while ignoring all the lulls.
ReplyDeleteYou are awesome, and I love how amazing and helpful this blog is. I'm giving out awards on my blog this evening... You should pop by in a few hours to receive yours! :)
ReplyDeleteI will usually go somewhere like a park and observe people and their conversations and ideas will come to me. Actually the idea for my first book came to me from my observation of people on the Internet ;-)
ReplyDeleteI'm motivated often by things I see, but also, a good book, especially one with amazing and beautiful prose, can send me straight to my computer, chomping at the bit to try my own hand at something beautiful. ;)
ReplyDeleteGreat post!

ReplyDeleteCan I tell you how much I love blogging! It's like we all have so much in common, I love your answers, everyone of you and, as you know, I feel the same:)
ReplyDeleteI'm a people watcher & a little wine doesn't hurt either ;)
ReplyDeleteHA! You make me laugh Mandie:)
ReplyDeleteHiking in the woods never fails to inspire me. It's the one place I'm guaranteed to have scenes from books floating around in my head :)
ReplyDeleteWonderful! Inspirational!
ReplyDeleteSome succeed because they are destined to.
But most succeed because they are determined to.
I'm always here to support you.
really great writers motivate me too. I read them and think, man if I just work a bit harder maybe my books will be this good one day!
ReplyDeleteGreat post!
I love this post Deanna. What motivates me is life experiences. Every circumstance, every situation, there is a lesson to be learned. As a result, I am motivated to inspire others through writing, speaking, etc. When individuals don't know their history they are doomed to repeat them. Through my writings, I am so motivated to help others stay focused on what's ahead!
ReplyDeleteJust reading this post has my adrenaline running. I love it when a moment for your story just pops into your head without effort. It's that magic that lets you know you are onto something with you MS.
ReplyDeleteHi there. I'm a new follower. I've stopped by via Maeve's blog. Nice to 'meet' you.
ReplyDeleteI'm motivated by remembering the good influence books have on others, and hoping mine may one day to the same.
Good luck with your blogfest. :)
Having a deadline helps motivate me. NaNoWriMo is good about pushing me to get work done. Now I need to learn to set my own deadlines and live by them.

Movies are a big one for me too!
ReplyDeleteI just saw Super 8 and was so inspired! I think I can watch commercials anymore, though, and be inspired:)
ReplyDeleteI love going to the city market. It's like walking into another time. It's very easy to people watch and get inspiration.
