I don't like change.
Sure, I'd like to say I'm all laid back and go with the flow. I used to be...when I was a teenager; even in my early twenties. New things would fly in my face and I'd embrace them with a smile and a hug. Now they do and I swat them away like they're pesky bugs ready to strike.
Coming to this conclusion of who I am hasn't been easy because, well, that is change too.
So you will understand when I realized that I had to change things up in order to finish my first draft, it was done with some major dragging of feet on my part.
Here is the funny thing about my loathing change. Once I have my tantrum about it, I embrace it like it's my new best friend. Weird huh? So really the only thing different about me since my youth is that I have to fight change before accepting it.
Well, after my kicking and screaming episode ended about my writing, I decided to trim down blogging to two days a week and switch those days to Tuesday and Friday.
Now I'm sure this makes no difference to you. Bloggers blog when they blog. If you like them you read. If you don't, you don't. Still it was HARD to come to this decision because I really...no I REALLY love to blog!
Facing the facts stinks, but hopefully I can get my first draft and some editing done and still connect with my writer buddies. Just in a slightly different way.
What about you? Do you like change? Do you fight it only to love it in the end?
I'll see you on Friday with a Firsts Fridays interview with Liz Schulte, author of Dark Corners. Then next week my Tuesday/Friday gig will begin. I hope to see you there.
Until next time...
Keep writing. Keep learning.
Hi Deana - it's definately a wise idea. Very addictive, all this blogging and you do a great job.
ReplyDeleteAs long as you're still blogging - I'm happy! : )
We're polar opposites. If I go too long without a change, I feel like a hamster on a wheel and eventually poop out and play dead.
ReplyDeleteProud of you for making a change that will benefit your WIP.
I HATE change. Unless it is Summer changing to Fall, but I think that is only because I hate the heat worse than I hate change. Blogging can take up tons of time and can be a distraction from writing. I'm still trying to strike a balance.
ReplyDeleteI totally understand why you're making the posting change. And I think change is good! So long as you're doing it for the right reasons, it's great. Priorities change in life! It's better to embrace change instead of letting it bog (or blog) you down. Good luck on your WiP!
ReplyDeleteI'm not big on change. Except for houses, I like to move a lot!
ReplyDeleteYou're right to do this, you've got to do whatever works for you, and the writing always comes first. Well, in my head it does. In reality, not always!
I hate change, but I love changing my manuscript...at least when someone tells me how to change it:)
ReplyDeleteGood luck and keep going!
Freya- Thanks! I'm not going anywhere because you're right, blogging is addictive:)
ReplyDeleteAngelina- See, I love that you are that way. I want to be that way. I tried to fake being that way for awhile but then I realized, wait, I become a lunatic everytime things are different. So as much as I hate it I guess I'm a bit drab:)
Angie- When you find a balance let me know:) Seriously! Fall is my FAVORITE time of the year! I can't wait till it's here.
Emily- You are so right. Change is good. Once I wrap my head around it I love it. I'm thrilled with the extra time in the morning I will have to write. I am already day dreaming about it:)
Sarah- Thanks! And you know what I love moving too! Every house I ever live in, when the year mark hits, I am ready to move again. So weird I am like that when I don't like change. I love the change of travelling too! Soooo much!
Christa- I'm right there with you on that one. Sometimes I wish I had someone to write the darn thing:) Only sometimes...
ReplyDeleteI used to be one of those who hated change. Now I welcome it with open arms.
ReplyDeleteCompletely understand the need to change! Now if only I could stop wearing this dang gray t-shirt all the time. *whistles*
ReplyDeleteLoree- Funny how you switched to loving it and I switched to fearing it:)
ReplyDeleteAlleged- I hear you! The sweas and the UK shirts I would be happy to change out of from time to time. To bad I don't:)
Deanna, love your blog! I'm a fellow Campaigner, I write YA romance. And it depends on the kind of change for me. We're living in our in-laws house...so I'm totally ready for change if it means getting to move! :)
ReplyDeleteI'm with you. Love to write, love to blog. Good for you making the decision to put your writing first!
ReplyDelete~Debbie
I think I'm kind of like you... like first I'm scared to change something, but then I realize it was for the best! :D
ReplyDeleteHi Deana:
ReplyDeleteLike Monica and you, I also initially kick and scream at change and then act like it was all my idea in the first place! :)) I'll love to read your blog no matter when you post...so go get that first draft done. I can't to read your next chapter!
My husband is constantly looking for change in some way. Right now he's trying to convince me to move which would be a major change!! I wouldn't mind so much if he wasn't always looking for the next thing, lol=)
ReplyDeleteI hope this change in blogging works out for you! I'll still read no matter when you blog=)
Cortney- You poor thing! We just moved out of my parents basement while we were trying to sell out out of state home. It was a challenge for sure. You are right, That kind of change is very good:) Can't wait to get to know you better through the campaign:)
ReplyDeleteDebbie- Thanks!
Monica- Great minds think alike right:)
Melodie- How sweet you are! And you are right, every good change is my idea and every bad change is someone elses of course:)
Kathleen- So you have a thrill-seeker hubby huh? At lease you can say there is never a dull moment:)
I'm not sure I *like* change, I just think I've gotten used to it. When you teach school, every day is something new, something changeable, something flexible. And that's all change is, really. Flexibility.
ReplyDeleteAlthough I 'm still a newbie. I can commpletely understand the addiction and the reason for this change. The stalking will continue no matter what! See you on Tuesdays & Fridays...I hate change:(
ReplyDeleteHey Deana! You inspired my blog post today! Thank you so much.
ReplyDeletehttp://bit.ly/qNu96h
Elana- I love the word flexibility! It sounds so much more like you are controlling it rather than the change controlling you:)
ReplyDeleteWriting Well- Yep, you will find it is so addicting and maybe more than anything because there are so many awesome people to get to know. I'm glad you will come back no matter the day:)
Awesome Debbie! I just read it:)
ReplyDeleteI don't mind change if it's fun, but it really depends on what the change entails. I'm also planning some blog changes--have already started if anybody's noticed. I plan to post about my own changes soon.
ReplyDeleteSometimes we just have to do it to get other things done. Good luck with yours.

Tossing It Out
I have mixed feelings about change. Universally, I get concerned re certain changes. E.g., I don't like it that kids today are constantly looking at keyboards and screens instead of in the eyes of another human. Personally, I like a lot of things to stay the same -- I've lived in the same place for nearly 17 years, and I can wear the same clothes for eons (I don't mean day after day; I mean I don't "retire" my clothes.) On the other hand, the same job everyday would drive me nuts. So... I guess it's routine that doesn't appeal, and routine, in some ways, is the opposite of change.
ReplyDeleteProvocative post, Deana, and wise decision to change your blogging schedule. It's tricky keeping so many writing balls in the air, isn't it?
Good luck with the editing!
See you Tuesdays and Fridays then, Deana! WIPs gotta come first.
ReplyDeleteAnd yeah, change is totally hard. But I love it. I love it because NOT changing is worse. Getting stagnant is one of my biggest fears, so I'm celebrating with your kicking, dragging, tantrum feet... and now with your newfound peace in this change!
<3 to you,
Lora
Arlee- You are so right. It does depend on the change. I'll have to check out your changes, see what your up to. Good luck on them:)
ReplyDeleteKatie- Every time I see kids...and adults glued to the computer (umm kind of like I am right now:) I think of Wallee. I'm always telling my littel girl we are going to turn out like that:)
Lora- Stagnant is without a doubt worse than change. Thanks for that reminder:)
I have a love/hate relationship with change. I like my comfort zone, but I get so much more out of life by leaving it. I came kicking and screaming to blogging, and it has given me so much as a writer. Bring on the change, baby.
ReplyDeleteLeslie- Good for you! Such a go getter attitude. You are a teacher for a reason:)
