Alrighty, on to my post...
Anyone who follows Jamie Ayers blog knows she is doing a 1st page critique contest (and you still have until Wed if you want to get in on it). The one doing the critique will be debut author Heather Burch who had her fabulous book, Halflings, come out in January anywhere books are sold.
Here is an excerpt:
Hunted by men and demons ...
Seventeen-year-old Nikki must entrust her life to three half human, half angel young men; the Halflings are sworn to protect her at all costs, but when two fall for Nikki, it puts more than their lives in danger; their very eternal souls hang in the balance.
Sounds pretty cool to me. What do you think?
I think I need to pick this book up:)

As I told you a while back I was going to start highlighting a lovely agent here on my blog for those on the dream agent search. My first agent is Nicole Resciniti of The Seymour Agency.
Aside from her being a work horse in the industry, she is also extremely sweet!
From the Seymour site, this is what she's on the prowl for:
Do you have the next book to feed her habit? A smart, tight read she won’t be able to put down? A signature voice she’ll fight to represent?
HEA’s are a must for romance. Mainstream suspense, thrillers, mysteries, YA and inspirational novels are welcome. A consummate science geek and card-carrying Mensa member, Nicole would love to find the next great science fiction/fantasy novel or action/adventure masterpiece.
Here are some interviews Nicole has done:
And here is how you SUBMIT TO HER
If you would like to stalk her (in the most professional way) check her out on TWITTER
Good Luck!
From first page critiques to looking for agents...where are you on your writer's journey and are you happy where you are?
Mary Sue and Nicole of the Seymour Agency are awesome agents!
ReplyDeleteWithout a plan or budget, I just sent my entire book to my ex who happens to be a Fantasy junkie. She read it, critiqued it, and even did a little editing.
ReplyDeleteAnswering your question with a question - Is a writer ever really happy where they are? lol
This is great Deana! I love agent spotlights :) Thanks for doing the work!
ReplyDeleteI'm definitely going to check her out! Blog page bookmarked! Thank you :)
ReplyDeleteOoh, agent to query. Putting on list now...
ReplyDeleteThanks Deana!
Thanks for the book blurb and agent spotlight! I like this combo. It makes for a fun post. : )
ReplyDeleteI've seen the Halflings cover somewhere else and it sounds like a great read. I've also seen Nicole Resciniti's interview at Honestly YA and think she sounds like someone I'd like to send a query letter to for my current MS.
ReplyDeleteThanks for the book recommendation and the agent spotlight.
ReplyDeleteI am "getting happier" about the place I'm at in the writing journey. For now, I'm where I'm supposed to be. I'll find contentment with each step I accomplish.
Deana. This is awesome thanks. I just followed her on Twitter.
ReplyDeleteAnd I LOVE the name of your next project.
Thanks for highlighting her! I'm about to start compiling my dream agent list, since I'm jumping into revisions on my WIP. Good luck with your new idea!! :)
ReplyDeleteHappy with my lovely agent, Katie Grimm. Dwelling in the realm of wait. Hoping the best for all your endeavors, Deana.
ReplyDeleteI can say that Nicole rejected me very nicely too. :) Tired but still plugging on...feeling optimistic about my new WIP...but no one has read it yet...
ReplyDeleteI was stranded in revisions for over two years in my last novel before finally throwing in the towel and moving on. Now I'm afraid to start them again on my newest. No, we are never really happy where we are, which is why we write new stories :) And I think you did the right thing. Thanks for all the info!
ReplyDeleteYAY for sweet agents! :D
ReplyDelete^Totally agree, Monica:) And thanks for mentioning Heather! YAY for sweet author/blogger friends who you've never even met except through cyber space & love dearly:):):) I just posted my winners from the contest. And I'll get to see the lovely Nicole this weekend at a writer's conference (she already has my stuff, so I'm hoping I'll get a comment out of her about it) & I'm pitching to at least 1, maybe 2 editors. I'm very happy with the direction my writing is going right now . . . I've switched to Fantasy YA which is what I LOVE to read, just never thought I was creative enough for. Looks like I didn't give myself enough credit, who knew! Ok, my hubby & 11-yr-old did, good thing I have them around to encourage me. ~HUGS!
ReplyDeleteJust wanted to let you know that I queried Ms. Nicole right now...Ah! We'll see how it goes :)
ReplyDeleteThanks for the intro. to Nicole and Halflings. Oh, for more hours in the day so I can bury myself in all the great books out there. I'm on the query road. Taking it slow. I'm more tortoise than hare.
