I try to look on the bright side here on my blog, but I am not a liar and today I cannot hide my totally bummy mood. No doubt about it, I am feeling the blues.
Have you ever felt that way and can't actually pinpoint what it is...or maybe you can pinpoint it but you just don't want to? Well that's me today.
It could be my writing, it could be personal. Whatever it is, I'm over it already! I hate feeling this way.
Have you ever been in a funk and don't really know why? What do you do to smack some happiness into your bummed out self?

ReplyDeleteI just thank God for all he's given me and try not to let my mood rule my life.
I've definitely used the "depressed stance" before though.
I definitely know the feeling and knowing what has been putting me in a funk makes it even worse because I can't shake it sometimes! There are days when there's so much I could do but I don't feel like doing anything at all...I just have to let the funk run its course.

I have to admit that rarely happens to me, but when it does it's infuriating. I find that kicking myself in the rear and getting out to do something productive generally shakes it. But it's tough.

ReplyDeleteI have so been there! Generally I need to get out of the house and figure out if there is any beauty left in the world. Then I write about it to remember how it made me feel. I hope you feel better soon!
ReplyDeleteI go through times when I feel blues. Writers have a lot of ups and downs, and it takes its toll...sometimes it's our writing...sometimes it's personal...sometimes it's both.
ReplyDeleteGo out and do something fun that you wouldn't normally do on a Tuesday - or something that you've been putting off - like go out to lunch with a friend or go to a movie.

ReplyDeleteOh yes. All I can do on days like that, today included is to let it have it's fun and when it's feeling weak, kick it in the rear and get on with life again.
ReplyDeleteOh heck yes. I definitely know that feeling and I usually call my sister because she always finds a way to make me laugh. Ride out the feeling, it always changes come the next day. Some days I wake up and feel inexplicably happy. I guess the blues are just the flip side of that.

ReplyDeleteI think we all feel this way sometimes, and I'm SO sorry you're in it right now! Sometimes it helps me to do something active and get the blood flowing.
I wish there was an easy way to break out of that kind of funk. I usually try to watch something funny and do whatever I can not to think about anything sad. I hope you snap out of it soon.
ReplyDeleteYes, all the time! Sometimes it's hormonal, sometimes it's writing centered (ok, most times). Get a hug from someone and know it passes. Ah, the life of an artist :)
ReplyDeleteI totally get that and I'm just fortunate enough to have a woman in my life that understands me and accepts me as I am, even if I get in a funk. If it lasts too long though she will kick my butt. lol

ReplyDeleteI actually had "the funky blues" today. I usually find that talking to my family or good friends--even if it's not about how I'm feeling--puts me in a better mood. And hot chocolate and a good foot soak usually help, too. Hope you're feeling more chipper soon!

ReplyDeleteSo sorry. I hate those days. It always helps to remind myself that the feeling will pass (and if not, there's always medical help.) I try to ease the pressure off and immerse myself in reading a great novel. Listening to some of my favorite music helps, too. Eat right, take a walk, get plenty of rest. I also try to control what my thinking, not letting my mind dwell in destructive places. (((HUGS)))

I agree with Kelley - working out usually gets me out of my funk - but unlike her, I do get bummed out. It's just normal (especially when you're querying and getting rejected!) I say, give yourself permission to be bummed a little. It's ok to feel what you feel. Trying to tamp it down could make it bigger than it should be. I try not to beat myself up if I'm down. I just say, 'OK. Today was just a sucky day. Tomorrow will be better. Just do the best you can with today."
