A Winner and Some Summer Goals

First things first, we have a business card winner!!

Judy Dudich! You won!!!
I will contact you shortly:)

Now, to my post....

Huh? You mean now that school's out I have to stop being a slacker?

You mean my kids are going to want me to take them to the pool and the park and have fun? I can't write, query agents, and do writerly things non-stop?

HA!

I'm living a pretty deluded life if I think that's what I've been doing.

I've been a slacker in all areas lately.

It's what happens when you have a very very sick grandmother, your daughter is in a big musical (40 min away from your house and practicing all the time), and you're living in limbo because you don't know if you're going to have to move....AGAIN! Oh well. It's life right? I'm fine with it. Worse things have happened. And things are beginning to slow down where I can actually think straight again.

So with my clear head in place, I want to be better. I want to be as good as I hoped I would be when this year started out and I set my fantabulous goals.

This summer I'm going to kick it up a notch and....

-Spend quality time with my kids

-Start writing that new idea I've been blabbing about

-Start querying again

-Figure out this moving situation once and for all

and

-Plan my Gearing up to get an Agent Blogfest (Stay tuned for more info on this)

In order to make this happen, I may not be my best blogging self throughout the summer. I will still be blogging of course, but it won't be my regular Tuesday/Friday schedule. I do hope you understand:)

What about you? Do you all have any big summer goals you can't wait to start on?

Gosh lady, do you ever set small goals for yourself?? :) Good luck with everything, I know you'll figure it all out. And of course we understand- blogging is not easy to fit into life, sometimes!

I love that others are as busy as I am. Makes me realize if they can do it, so can I. We look forward to reading your blog when you get a chance to write it.

Wow, moving again?? What does your hubby do for a living? Just wondering . . . it is hard to write over the summer for me too when I have to play activities director for my kids. But it's much easier than during the school year when I'm teaching, lol. I can't wait for your blogfest--sooooo much fun last year. I'll keep you in my prayers as you try to accomplish your goals~hugs!

First off, all best wishes to your grandmother. Hope she's OK.

I don't really know what my summer will be like because I might be getting a job, and then we'll have to organise some childcare... but my chief goal is to edit and revise my WIP. (After reaching the goal of finishing the first draft by the end of June, of course!) Best of luck with all your goals!

Just write and plan a book launch.

I'm hoping to finish both of my WIPs this summer, my contemporary historical (early 1980s) and my historical set from 1946-47. I'm really hoping they might be done in time for my to start my third Russian novel by the fall. That one's going to take all my undivided attention, as I'm expecting it to be the longest book I've written to date, tipping the scales at at least 450,000 words.

I'm also hoping to start querying again this summer, my upper YA historical Bildungsroman set during WWII in Holland. I also may be working at the local Orthodox day camp again, which should be fun, and taking a graduate-level class in the evenings.

At least you have goals...that's not slacking :)

I'm all about goals - setting them anyway! I think my goal for summer is to just keep plugging away at goals I set right after LDStorymakers and not let them slide! Hard to do in the summer but I think I can do it.

So where are you moving to? Please say Washington!
:)

HA! That's so funny. Summer strikes fear into my heart too because I can't crouch in front of my laptop anymore - my kids will want entertainment! Pool and playground and beach! I don't remember my parents entertaining me. I remember them saying 'go outside and find something to do." Ah, the 70s.
My goal this summer is to finish the first draft of my wip. And not obsess obsessively (is there another way to obsess?) over being on submission. See, with writing, the obsessing thing never really ends! Good luck on your goals

I'm going to hold you accountable, Deana, even though I'll be busy revising two novels that WILL BE DONE by the end of the summer. Now, get to it. ^_^

Yay for kicking it up a notch this summer! I need to do the same, though i don't think I'm nearly as busy as you are. :) Good luck!

Aside from getting my first novel off the ground and published, my only goal right now is to settle into my new job.

Once I do that, I'll start really kicking myself in the pants to start making goals.

All worthy goals. Good luck. I love summer and the relaxed pace. Mostly I love not hounding my kids constantly about homework and grades. Hello Summer!

Congrats to Judy!

I'm sorry to hear about your Grandmother. I hope she is surrounded by those she loves.

I'm psyched about your agent blogfest. I don't know if I'll do it this year, but I'll be sniffing around.

You may have to move again?? Hopefully just to another house, right? Sounds like your summer will be packed, w/ or w/o writing. Prayers for your grandmother...and have a great summer!

Hang in there, Deana. Goals don't have to be big to still be moving you forward.

Congrats to Judy. Cherish these summers with your kids. You blink and they're adults. *sigh*
