On the Horizon

Now that my 2012 goals are in place, I thought I would use my blog as way to help me achieve them. So I've got a few new things I'm going to be doing that I'd like to share with you.

Writer's Butt Updates:
You may remember a post back in September about how sitting in my computer chair day-in and day-out has done a number on my tail? I called the dilemma, Writer's Butt. Well, this year, I am bound and determined to remedy this issue. To help, I will be doing a monthly post on the last Friday of every month, about what's working, what's not, and my progress (or lack thereof), to keep me accountable. Feel free to join me on these Fridays. Together, we can rid the world of Writer's Butt! Or at least have fun trying:)

Friday Free-For-All:
On Friday's I'm going to give myself permission to have a free day. I'll talk about my life, my writing updates, how my cat (Totally flubbed that up. It's my dog. That is what I get for writing this post at midnight:) wears booties in the snow because she doesn't like her feet to get cold. No joke. Anything and everything will be up for grabs on Fridays.

Agent Spotlight:
My other blogging day is Tuesday, and I am going to try to keep that centered around writing. I'm talking, the craft, getting published, marketing, the ups and downs of the journey, you name it. And since I'm going to be querying soon, I thought it might also be nice to add in some spotlights for new agents, or ones I've come across in my research that I think are super cool.

Are any of you bloggers out there changing things up in your neck of the woods? I'd love to hear all about it.

Your Tuesday topics will be a great way to document your writing journey as you begin querying! I took a survey on my blog and will be making a few small changes based on the input I received, bringing in more on my publication journey as I go.

Not really changing anything with my blog...

Totally pumped for 'writer's butt'!

I lost my mind yesterday and started designing a new blog template. It's a ways from being ready to launch, but that's probably all I'm really changing (besides being better about commenting on everyone else's blogs!)
Good luck on your goals this year! Writer's Butt be gone!

I'll be making some changes on my blog as well, but I'm still in the exploring and planning stages. Also banishing Writer's Butt!

That sounds like such a fun blogging schedule! Can't wait to see what you come up with. Good luck in the fight against Writer's Butt!

Good for you for writing your goals down here. It's a great way to be accountable. I look forward to hearing all about your progress.

I'm spending less time blogging, and although I miss it, I am really enjoying my time writing. I have been able to focus on revisions instead of bouncing back and forth between it and blogging.

I will be doing some changes to my blog in the spring. Not sure on all the changes yet. For now, still once a week is all I can do with a full time job and writing.

Well done re your changes. Yes, I am making changes this year too. I recently had my blog critiqued so I am going to try and instigate some of her recs. Just need to find a nano second ... love the visual I got from imagining your cat in boots - piccie please!

Writers butt...I already wore out my latest office chair. Will need a new one soon. I made permanent changes and made decisions I could live with. Over time, those decisions changed. Got my butt to shrink and stay shrunk.

Best on all your goals, Deana.

I love that you're going to do some agent spotlights. Literary Rambles is one of the other blogs that kicks tail in the agent spotlight area.

But about the butts. Yeah, I can't name mine Writer's butt since it set up house and home long before I initiate butt-in-chair to write moments. But I am working on improving in that area so I'll be working with you from a distance :-)

Your goal-i-ness is impressive. The agent spotlights sound perfecto since I'm swimming the the query waters right now. Always good to meet new possibilities.

Sounds like a good plan to me:) 2x a week is much too ambitious for me so my goal is 1x a week this year (much better than 1x a month, right?). Oh, and I've developed Writer's Butt for sure, lol!

Could definitely use some comradeship banishing my own WB. And I'm also facing a blog crisis...will probably cut back to weekly posts. Am looking forward to your agent spotlights!!

Good luck with the writer's butt!

I'm not changing too much up with my blog, but just trying not to feel so pressured to post. The focus should be on writing/editing my WIP, right? So even though I'll still maintain the blog, I'm only going to post when I feel like I have something important to say. It's really taken a lot of weight off my shoulders!

haha! I'm going to have to join you on this writer's butt journey. this is too hilarious.

The weekly agent spotlight sounds really interesting. I've scheduled a lot of posts in advance for the remainder of this month and February, mostly worthwhile stuff from my old Angelfire site, book reviews of the classics (Persian Letters, Candide, Ramayana, etc.), a guide on how to watch and select silent films, debunking myths about silents, and a tribute to some of the classic comedians of the silent and early sound era. So it's going to be a lot less about my own personal writing these coming months.

I absolutely love the comments here! I just found your blog, and the accountability issue is greatly dented by sharing with others. Writers Butt is a real issue, and I think a superhero should be assigned to it immediately.

I have major goals this year, and am deciding whether I should go with self publishing, using Balboa Press, or if I should look for an agent. That part is all new to me and I would love some input and to know about others experiences. I have a friends whose first book has already been optioned for movie. She went with an agent but had already ghost written for a pretty popular disney star.

My goals are to publish the first book and finish the second, move my blog to wordpress, launch a website and tackle google+ like a woman on a mission. All that in my spare time, when I am not parenting.

I pray your success - each and every one of you.
