Story Chain

For the Gearin' Up to Get an Agent blogfest, week two is all about creation and the story chain.  There is still time to sign up for week three (query contest) and week four (agent pitch contest)

If you'd like to follow the story chain for wk 2 here go the list is here and I will be posting the final version on Friday.

Marcie's part

"Yes," every thing's in order," Tony sighed.  He looked toward me with that, 'I'm so sorry' expression.

"What? Why are you looking at me like that?"

A cough garbled up what Tony said next, but Dio heard.  "Your parents, they drowned on their vacation in Istanbul.  I'm so sorry to have to tell you like this.  I have been working very hard to get you in a good home, and Sandy, well, she is like a second mother to you."

Dio glanced through tear stained eyes toward Sandy.  "Is this true?"

"I'm sorry Butterscotch, but it is."

Suddenly Dio hated that nickname.  It stung her like slap to the face, but what she hated more were the next words that came out of Sandy's mouth.  "Tony has brought your bag.  You're going to Europe with me."

Nice, Deana! You know what's funny? I was thinking that Tony and Dio would be adopting the baby... but you took it another direction. LOVE IT! This is SO MUCH FUN!!!

Now that's a huge emotional twist! And Dio's headed to Europe. Yay!

And a totally unexpected twist! You've got me wondering -- what's so awful about going to Europe?

FYI: The link for Juliana goes back to Marcie's page.

Thanks Callie, I changed the link. Whew, that was crazy to be creative like that one the fly! So fun!!!

Hmm, what bad could be in Europe??? The question of the day:)

So I chose to be suprised and not read the others so did I throw it way off balance? I'm off to read it now....

Man, this girl's life sucks!

1. Crappy name (according to her)
2. Dead parents
3. Has to go to Europe (kind of cool to us but sucky to a kid)

Whoa. :P Can't wait to read what the next author does with this. Nice!

I stopped by earlier to read your post, but was way too stressed to leave a comment. Now that things have settled down around here, I'm back. I really like the way you used butterscotch as a nickname and the added drama of her parents tragic drownings!

Unknown said...

LOL you just changed the whole story! Ha ha Queen Twister for sure :)

Been hunting for this change to first person...lol, but of cource! You did it...ha ha ha. I like writing in first person better so thank you!

Whoops, Siv, thanks for the catch. I changed it back to third. My current wip is in first so I guess some habits are hard to break:)

Thanks for all the sweeeeet comments guys. My twist seems to be the first of MANY! How cool is this story gonna get?:)

Love that you gave Dio some emotional depth here, and fed us a great new plot twist. It just took this story places I hadn't dreamed of.

And Butterscotch! Ewww. Good grief--no wonder Sandy and Tony turned into baddies :)

Lora - LOL I woke up late and literally had 5 min to pull this together. Butterscotch nickname was toally on the fly...hehe

I like the teen anxiety.

way to drop that bomb! :) 'uhhhh your parents are dead and you're going on a european vacay!' It's slightly absurd -- but it totally works.

I was thinking Tony would adopt the baby as well, so this was a great twist to the twist :-)

Deana said...

Amber- Ha! Slightly absurd...ya think:) That's how I write with five minutes. Just rip it all apart:)

Stephanie- I actually feel kinda bad I missed the ball on the baby. I didn't read any but Marcie's right before me so I was totally guessing my way through it all.
